Hartlepool Art Gallery
Opened in January 1996, Hartlepool Art Gallery forms the centre piece to the extensive renovation of the Church Street area of Hartlepool. Situated in Church Square, the Gallery is located in the completely restored former Christ Church. The Gallery has an exhibition programme which addresses a different theme every two months and may have one or several exhibitions on show simultaneously. The exhibition programme, changing bi-monthly, aims to have a wide appeal, showing family exhibitions, but also including challenging contemporary art, in order to make full use of a gallery space which can accommodate anything from miniatures to massive sculpture. As well as the exhibitions, there is the opportunity to climb the tower, and see the panoramic views of town and coast, or have a coffee in the gallery cafe. There is also a craft shop selling contemporary ceramics, jewellery, etc, and a specialist book shop. The Gallery also houses the local Tourist Information Centre.
